• Special Pitches No. 4 (SP4), origin UK, is used as extenders in paints and protective coatings.
• SP4 is popularly used as extenders in chemically cured epoxy and polyurethane paints, or in non-curing vinyl co-polymers and chlorinated rubber paints.
• Low water content (<0.1%) also makes SP4 suitable for use in moisture curing polyurethane systems.
• The combination of a suitable coal tar pitch with epoxy resin, polyurethane resin, vinyl co-polymers or chlorinated rubber produces a relatively low cost coating exhibiting many of the desirable properties of both components.
Packaging
Steel drums, 225 kg, or, by arrangement, in bulk road tankers or bulk I.S.O. containers.
Application
• Pitch/epoxy, pitch/polyurethane, pitch/vinyl and pitch/chlorinated rubber systems are recommended for protective coating under corrosive conditions such as exist in chemical works, plating shops, marine and port installations, sewage works and power stations.
• Used successfully as external coatings on underground storage tanks, pipe lines, water storage tanks, for indoor and outdoor structural steel, storage tanks and equipment in corrosive chemical fume or spillage areas, marine piling, piers, buoys and for ships’ hulls, decks and bilges.
• In addition pitch/chlorinated rubber systems can also be used on motor vehicles as an under seal and for soundproofing.
• Moisture curable polyurethane systems containing a Special Pitch can be used in heavy duty, anticorrosive one coat systems and in flexible coatings for roofing membranes, other damp proof membranes and vehicle body unseals.
